Community, a construct of connecting each other through common goals, geographical boundaries and circumstances. When individuals of our community are undermined, how do we create change as a community? 10% of the United States is known to have a physical disability, but 99% of the fashion industry does not pertain to adaptive wear. My collection uses fashion to close the gaps within our community as people. Being from the Midwest, I take a lot of inspiration from the blue-collar and growing small businesses. I’ll hold the door open because no one is a stranger, so we shouldn’t treat disabilities like one either. HYTCH-HKR is constructed with up-cycled banners, waste fabric from companies, and locally sourced natural dyes. I hope my collection will inspire you to be more conscious of your community too.
